I
have written two or three articles concerning internet security in the past;
but, my friends and relatives still asked and continue to ask me to enlighten
them more on the issue of password. Yes, they are right because all our online
works, investment and money are guarded with the password we use to “lock” them
and keep them save, isn’t it?
As a result of that, I am going to write today on
how to create a secure password, i am going to show you how to make a secure password you can use for your online accounts. Not to waste time, let us see these points one
by one.
First,
don’t create your password based on
your personal details. How do I mean? Can you
believe that some people use their direct names as their online password? It is
very wrong to do it like that. Even if you will use your name, other special characters
like {@‘”\#<} should be added to its
back or front or middle to make it stronger.
Again,
if you want to create a secure password, don’t use any name that is associated
with your account name. What do I mean really? What I’m describing is that you
must not use the name of the website that is associated with your account name.
Hear this; what I’m saying is that you must not use the name of the website you
used to create your password. For instance, never use “facebook” as a password
if you create your account on www.facebook.com. Simple! Isn’t it clear? Okay, I
think you get me better.
No
matter the kind of password you will use, never use a short one. Make sure you
use a long password with alphanumeric characters; for example, (rryry^^*wale….]><Jog).
It will be easier for the hackers to guess your password if you use a short one
especially if it is not an alphanumeric in nature.
Don’t
form the habit of storing your password in your computer hard disk if you know your
windows is not passworded. Don’t write your password in an open notepad or
book, it is risky! Remember that, once you lose your password to the hackers,
your account is gone for it! Your online banking details, your emails details,
your investment, your Forex money, your sweat is gone for it if you are
careless about your passwords. So, be conscious of where you store you
password. For me, the best place to store your password is inside your brain!
To
create a secure password, try to rephrase your security answer you created
alongside your password when you were creating it. This is what I mean; try to
secure your recovery answer in case of losing your password. Change the string
of answer you submitted when creating your account. For example, if you are
being asked where you spent your last holiday? Instead of producing a
legitimate answer like Lagos, Togo, china, USA and so; you can decide to change
the string like these: 7347373hhdfhdh, lagoto55757, Chinu3y373. These types of
recovery answers will be very difficult to guess.
Again,
don’t form the habit of using one password for all your online stuff. Don’t use
one password for your yahoo, Gmail, Facebook and Twitter account. No matter
what, try and change it. Even if it is one or two character different, change
it. If you use the same password, then all your online accounts are gone for it
if you get caught. Be wise!
In
conclusion, just as I say before, the best place to save your password is your
brain. No matter the kind of relationship that exists between you and other
person, never disclose your login details to anyone. Keep it secured, keep it
safe and have a rest of mind.
