HOW TO KEEP A PASSWORD SECURE: DOS AND DON’TS

I have written some articles in the past on how to keep the password secure for our day to day online activities. It is very important to note and know that our password is the gateway and strong door that guard our online activities, we have to know this and take it seriously. Really, not many people take it seriously, but the negligence can cause us a big, harsh repercussion.

I hope you know what I mean. Now to make it clearer and discrete, I have summarized some of the DOS AND DONTS of password usage here in this post. You can keep a password secure by following these easy tips:

DON’TS
1.    Do not use your
name, name of your father or company alone as a password.
2.    Do not use a direct name or dictionary name as your password. Try and use special characters.
3.    Do not save your password on your computer desktop. Do not even save it in any folder without any added security to that folder.
4.    Do not write down your password in a note or booklet. Don’t keep your password recklessly;  Keep it secured, keep it safe.
5.    Do not send your password via email
6.    Do not send your password via text messages
7.    Do not give your password via phone conversation
8.    Do not give your password via online charting; e.g. Facebook, Yahoomessanger, Google+ etc
9.    Never and never give or disclose your password to anyone unless if the account is jointly controlled by you and the other person(s) involve.

DOS
1.    Make sure you use more than 8 characters . Not only that, use alphanumeric characters. What I mean is that you should use combinations of characters you can see on your computer keyboard. Example of such is this (ab>H<>GlP{76\). This type of password is not easy to guess by anyone.

2.    Make sure you guide your hands whenever you are typing your password. If you are not comfortable with the set of people around you while inputting your password, it is better to stop. Some people are evil doer and password “stealer”.

3.    Change your password periodically and use different characters/numbers/digits when changing it, it is very important and necessary.
